Jewelry - Feather Rings for Advanced Beginners 10.31.18

Karyl will guide you through each step of the process, demonstrating how to measure accurately, cut and form the band before soldering for a tight, strong seam. Prior jewelry experience helpful for this class. Conquer your fear of soldering and learn how to create your own custom made sterling silver stacking rings. This class for the beginner will teach the basic metal working techniques of sawing, filing, stamping, soldering and finishing. Participants will leave with finished silver rings as well as the knowledge and skill to continue making rings at home at their kitchen table. Have you always wanted to make socks? Have you dabbled in sock knitting but just can’t seem to get the hang of it? Or, are you an experienced sock knitter looking to improve your skills? In three weeks of tutorials we’ll break down sock construction from heel to toe, compare different methods, discuss patterns, yarns, books and resources to provide you with what you need to explore the rich world of sock knitting. Prerequisites: You must already know how to knit, purl, increase, decrease, cast on, and bind off. Experience knitting in the round is helpful. Double pointed or circular needles are both suitable. Materials: 100g sock weight yarn such as Berroco Sox; 4 or 5 double pointed knitting needles size 0, 1, or 2; darning needle, scissors, tape measure, stitch markers if you have them. Mention this class at The Cashmere Goat in Camden to receive a discount on supplies. This is a fun group that will get you painting at least one night per week. The class is open to all levels of skill, but you must have had some painting experience. This is an introduction to three types of welding equipment. We will cover safety, welder operation, fabrication and bending techniques, while showing you how to create garden and lawn ornaments. This class is NOT designed for anyone hoping to obtain work in the welding world. It IS designed to help those who would like to be able to do minor welding in their own garages. Sign up early as class size is limited to 6. Registration $80 includes materials. 5 weeks 5:30-8:00 p.m. Begins Mon 11/19 CHRHS Metal Shop Wayne Twitchell is a retired welding instructor from Bath Iron Works and has been welding for over 40 years. Wayne is a recipient of the Navy’s Aegis Excellence Award for welding. He has taught welding through adult ed programs for 10 years and in his spare time enjoys making scrap metal sculptures.

Pottery for Beginners to Advanced

If you have taken a beginners sewing class and want to go further, this is the class for you! We will start and complete a project each night including an envelope pillow, a zippered pouch, pajama bottoms, a pillowcase and one other class-selected project. Every project will feature a new technique (French seam, installing a zipper, buttonhole, hemming, and more) while following pre-printed and custom patterns. Sewing machines are available for use or students may bring their own machines if they are in good working condition. All supplies will be provided for the first class. Requirements for the following classes will be discussed that night. Registration $35. 4 weeks 6:00-8:00 p.m. Begins Wed 10/24 CHRHS Rm 232 Sandy Clement has been sewing for many years and was the first college student in her dorm to bring a sewing machine to school. She assisted seamstress and artist, Linda Leach, on several occasions with costuming for Camden Civic Theater performances.
