Getting Started – Investing for People under age 35

This course introduces the basic concepts of investing for beginners – compound interest, dollar cost averaging, investing in taxed accounts versus tax-deferred accounts, and the importance of starting early. You will learn how to use these concepts to begin your investing plan. Registration $20. 1 night 6:00-7:30 p.m. Class Wed 10/3 CHRHS Rm 235 Lowrie Sargent is Vice President and Investor Advisor representative for Maine Asset Management and Director of Education and member of the State Board of Directors for Better Investing. He has been investing since 1978 and has a Masters of Business Administration, Loyola College, and Bachelor of Arts, Cornell University. He also is a recipient of the Vedder Prize in Economics.

Homebuyers Education

MaineStream Finance is offering this hoMEworks approved homebuyer education class. Participants who attend all four classes receive a homebuyer education certificate, recognized by Maine State Housing Authority and Rural Development. The certificate is good for 2 years. Homebuyer education class attendees over the years have given the classes high ranks and recommend that every first-time homebuyer consider taking the class. Registration $40. Meets Mon, Tues, Wed, Thurs for 1 week 5:30-8:00 p.m. Begins Mon 10/15 CHRHS Rm 235 MaineStream Finance provides personal finance, home loans, and business services to people in Maine who might otherwise have limited access to financing and credit.
