Learn to Curl at the Belfast Curling Club 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Sun 1/6
with Steve McLaughlin
Curling is a sport dating back to the 16th century in Scotland, but it recently came to the forefront when the USA Men’s Curling Team won their first gold medal in the Sochi Winter Olympics. Curling is often referred to as the ice version of shuffleboard, as players slide special heavy stones towards a target, using brooms to influence the path of the stone. Join the Belfast Curling Club for a one-day intro to curling and learn about this fun winter sport. Wear loose, comfortable clothing, dress warmly (you’re on ice), and bring a separate pair of clean sneakers. $10 registration to adult ed, $10 to be paid to the Curling Club when you arrive for class. Volunteer masons, carpenters, plumbers, electricians, and laborers built the club on donated land - even making their own 5,000 cinderblocks! They currently have a three-sheet clubhouse which provides activities for more than 100 members ranging in age from 16 to 75. A banquet and dance hall was added in 1977.
