Five Town CSD Adult & Community Education

This five session poetry class will explore the work of Adrienne Rich, considered one of American’s foremost intellectuals, and Adam Zagajewski, one of Poland’s foremost contemporary poets. Their work illuminates the past and extends into our present. Both have received much recognition, just to name one of their awards: for Rich, the Lannan Lifetime Achievement Award and for Zagajewki, the 2016 Griffin Poetry Prize Lifetime Recognition Award. We will focus on what we experience when we read the poems, what we find and where it takes us. From the standpoints of content and form, we will look at how the poems make meaning and create feeling. Texts for the class are An Atlas of the Difficult World by Adrienne Rich and Without End: New and Selected Poems by Adam Zagajewski. Readings by and about the poets will broaden our appreciation and understanding of their poems and of the many faces of poetry.
