Backyard Chickens

with Sarah Ruef-Lindquist

Have you ever wanted to have chickens on your property? In many cities and towns homeowners have added small chicken flocks to their yards and gardens as part of the movement towards local food and sustainable living. Some towns even hold “Coop Tours” of the charming and unusual housing chicken owners have created. This class will teach you the basics of small-scale chicken ownership. Topics will cover local ordinances, buying and raising chicks, coop size and design, health and safety, food and water, flock behavior and equipment. Registration $20. 1 night 6:00-8:00 p.m. Class Wed 3/21 CHRHS Rm 221 Sarah Ruef-Lindquist lives in Camden and has been raising chickens in her backyard since 2007. She and her husband Peter were instrumental in changing Camden's zoning ordinance to allow small flocks of chickens on lots under two and a half acres.
