Chemistry with Lab

This high school level introductory chemistry class, with lab, is designed for those needing chemistry for acceptance into college programs. This course qualifies as a lab science for college admissions. The instructor keeps this class rigorous, yet relaxed and supportive. Limited to 15 students. Registration $75, which includes all lab and textbook fees, waived if taken for high school diploma credit. 14 weeks 3:30-6:00 p.m. Begins Tues 1/24 CHRHS Rm 317 Paul Desaulniers is a chemistry teacher at Oceanside High School in Rockland.

College 101 - Understanding College Admission and Financial Aid

The college admission and financial aid processes continue to evolve rapidly, leaving students and families grappling with questions about how these changes affect them. These four sessions will address: how the college admission process works at a range of institutions (public, private, highly selective); how students can use the admission process as a tool to encourage self-reflection and growth rather than anxiety and stress; how the financial aid process works and strategies to minimize debt; and how to help students navigate decisions about major, career and professional skill development. Registration $20 a family. 4 weeks 7:00-8:00 p.m. Begins Thurs 1/26 CHRHS Rm 235 Caitlin Clark was Assistant Dean of Admissions at Olin College of Engineering. She has worked as an independent college counselor and is currently the mentor for recipients of the Worthington Scholarship, which is available to graduates of Oceanside and Camden Hills High Schools.

English Lab

The goals of this English class are to improve overall writing, reading and grammar skills. We will focus on sentence construction, word usage, punctuation, spelling, and grammatical patterns. The course also emphasizes the writing process and is excellent preparation for those preparing to take the Accuplacer exam or college level classes. Registration $75, waived if taken for HiSET or high school diploma, or if you are a College Transitions student. 14 weeks 3:30-6:00 p.m. Begins Mon 1/23 CHRHS Rm 222 David Doubleday and Patti Forster are both popular teachers in the English Department at Camden Hills Regional High School.

 

HiSET Preparation Daytime 2016-17

Heidi Nolan runs our daytime learning center for adults that helps people obtain their HiSET Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and Friday 1:00-4:00 p.m. at the Superintendent's building, also known as the "Bus Barn," behind the middle school in Camden. Drop in anytime it is open to talk to Heidi. Instruction is individualized to meet your needs and you can come and go freely throughout the semester. Heidi will help you in the areas where you need help. When you are ready, we will give you the official tests. There is no fee for HiSET training or testing. Begins Tues 9/1 8:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m. Adult Learning Center 7 Lions Lane, Camden Heidi Nolan oversees our learning center and has taught adult literacy classes over five years for Five Town CSD and the U.S. Army.

Math Lab

This math class is designed to help students working in any area of math, from the basics to algebra and geometry. Whether you are pursuing a diploma, HiSET, or need math for transition to college, the instructor will work with students at their own levels and their own pace, either individually or in small groups. Registration $75, waived if taken for high school diploma or HiSET credit. 12 weeks 3:30-6:30 p.m. Begins Thursday 1/26 CHRHS Rm 219 Lora Hanley grew up in Rockland, ME, and, after graduating from Stonehill College, returned to Maine to teach. She has been teaching math for 5 years and is currently a math teacher at CHRHS.

 

Volunteer Tutor Training

Volunteer tutors are needed in Waldoboro and Camden to help adults in our learning centers. This training will teach you how to work one-on-one with adults to assist them with their basic educational goals such as improving reading and writing skills and earning a HiSET equivalency diploma. You will leave the workshop with the information and materials you need to begin the rewarding work of being a volunteer tutor. No charge but please call the Adult Ed office to register. 1 day 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. Class Thurs 3/9 Adult Learning Center, Bus Barn, 7 Lions Lane, Camden Heidi Nolan is the lead teacher at our adult learning center.
